The foundation for training and manners
In this six week course, students build their training foundation, learning cues such as sit and stay, and solve common behavioral problems such as jumping and barking.
In this six week course, students learn how to train in the presence of distractions, strengthening their bond with their dog while building on behaviors learned in the previous course.
Certification test preparation
In this six week course, students apply the skills taught in previous lessons to real world scenarios in preparation for the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen Certification Test. Examples of scenarios include walking through a crowded space in public, and passing other dogs.
In this course, students apply the skills taught in previous lessons in preparation for the Alliance of Therapy Dogs Certification Test. Examples of behaviors practiced include handling by strangers and confidently approaching potentially frightening objects.
Training dogs to assist individuals with disabilities
In this individualized course, students will work with an instructor to teach their future service dog various disability assistance tasks. Examples of tasks include alerting their handler to the ring of a phone for the hearing impaired, or picking up objects on the ground and handing them to someone with limited mobility. In this individualized course, students will learn how to apply the Americans with Disabilities act to their life with a service dog. This includes learning how to navigate common scenarios when out in public, as well as the manners and standards of behavior expected of service dogs while assisting their owners.
